From Black: Thoughts and Life Lessons Regarding the Use of Ancient Magic

Mesopotamia must have been an interesting place…

It’s a movie about a mom and her boy, except the boy is missing and presumed dead while the mom is addicted to heroin. From Black is a creepy, atmospheric stroll through grief, regret, and some attempt at absolution.

I love Shudder, and I think From Black is another fantastic Shudder Original. It stars Anna Camp, who you will recognize from Pitch Perfect and True Blood. As a side note, I don’t think I’ve met a Shudder Original I dislike, so the streaming service is well worth the cost of admission for horror fans.

You’re going to get some spoilers here, so if you want to go watch the movie first and then come back for the life lessons, go for it. Otherwise, read on, and you’ve been warned.

About the Film

The film’s synopsis paints a bleak picture. “A recovering drug addict, desperate for closure and saddled by crushing guilt after the disappearance of her young son, is presented with a bizarre offer to learn the truth about what happened and set things right — if she is willing to pay a terrifying price. How dark is she willing to go for a chance at redemption?” Via IMDB.
