Set Big Financial Goals for Yourself
If you’re not thinking big, what are you even doing thinking at all?
It’s fun to daydream about winning the lottery or creating an app that brings in millions of dollars, but instead of wishing for riches why not make ambitious financial goals and work toward them?
I’m talking big goals. Don’t waste your energy on tiny goals, because should you really be aiming that low?
I’m not talking about unrealistic goals, either. Don’t set goals like earning a million dollars a year when you’ve got no skills or products capable of generating that amount in that timeframe.
So what’s a goal that’s in the realm of possibility but also big?
What if you’re making a $70,000 salary and you think you can hit $100,000 with the right amount of work and good ideas? That’s a pretty big jump, but it’s possible.
Want to pay off $10,000 of credit card debt in six months? OK, that might be kind of tough. That’s over $1666 per month to hit that goal. Not a lot of people have that much extra each month lying around, so if you’re going to be that ambitious, you’ll have to be creative, too.
But I’m not here to talk about debt payoff strategies. I’m not even telling you to pay off your debt right now. I’m telling you to reach.
Imagine how much of a stretch that would be to scrounge together $1600+ extra each month for your credit card payments. It’s not a goal you can hit without a lot of effort.
That’s really what I think you should take away from this.
Set goals that make you stretch. That makes you think. That makes you get creative.
Goals that make you roll up your sleeves and get to work are goals that will make you grow.
It’s like building muscles. If you want to grow them, you’ve got to put them into a system of progressive overload. Likewise, if you want to grow as a person and grow your bank account, you’ll have to push yourself.
Set big financial goals that make you reach, stretch, and grow. After a few short years of this, just imagine how much better off you’ll be.
